DILARES
The Division of Iberian and Latin American Resources and Services (DILARES) is a multi-departmental unit within the UNM
University Libraries, encompassing both traditional public service, collection development, and cataloging operations as
well as specialized research, fundraising, and outreach functions. DILARES
collections serve as one of the major repositories
of Latin American resources in the United States. They contain an estimated 415,000 monographic volumes (including some
27,000 rare books and other scarce imprints housed in Special Collections), 1,100 current serial subscriptions, more than
half a million microform units, 13,500 posters, 4,500 photographs, approximately 310 cubic feet of manuscript material, and
a significant array of electronic resources.
Microforms
Microforms preserve otherwise fragile materials for long term use and provide a compact means of storing large collections. The
UNM University Libraries holds 4 million microforms; these materials comprise a significant portion of the Library's holdings and
help support research in a number of areas. Centennial, Fine Arts, Parish, and Zimmerman libraries house microforms in film and
fiche format. The following guides have been developed to make finding some of the major collections of microformat materials
easier. For information on collections not yet included in these lists and on more complete collection descriptions not yet
accessible through these lists, go to the reference desk and ask a reference librarian for assistance.
