Tyler 103: "Perhaps the tourists who were just beginning to be a common sight throughout the republic were the dreaded mosquito. . . Another possibility is that mosquito referred to the many Americans President Díaz was bringing in to handle the railroads, the mines, and other technical aspects of Mexico's development. A third possibility is that the term referred to the already ubiquitous American dollar." [Print 999-019-0060]

Tyler 228: ". . . probably the work of another of the artists in the employ of Vanegas Arroyo. Although it is difficult to date such prints because of the many times they were used, the earliest print located is dated after Posada's death. Also, the print seems to be a caricature of Gen. Victoriano Huerta, who did not come to power. . . until after Posada's death. [Print 999-019-0078]

Tyler 76: "This broadside, which probably is better known in Mexico as El corrido de los animales, is similar to songs such as 'Froggie Went A-Courtin' in the English tradition of animal ballads. . . Although Vanegas Arroyo employed poets to write verses for him, the 'versos muy extravagantes' are based upon regional ballads that probably originated in Spain." [Print 999-019-0101]
