Position Description

This post-MLIS residency is designed for recent graduates of ALA-accredited library and information science programs. Prior professional experience is neither required nor expected. The Resident will participate in an extensive orientation program, as laid out in the Resident Manual, that provides the opportunity to develop expertise in all aspects of an academic research library including: research and instruction services, public and technical services, library administration, special collections, library research programs and library technology. Appointments are non-tenure track with a rank of Visiting Lecturer. Residents will participate in faculty governance as detailed in the UNM Faculty Handbook.

About the University Libraries

The University Libraries (UL) of the University of New Mexico is comprised of four libraries, containing over 2 million volumes: Centennial Science and Engineering Library, Fine Arts Library, Parish Memorial Library (business and economics), and Zimmerman Library (education, humanities and social sciences). The Center for Southwest Research is also a part of the UL. The UL is a member of the Association of Research Libraries and the Greater Western Library Alliance and participates in the OCLC system as a member of AMIGOS. The UL is a regional library in the Federal Depository Library Program. The UL uses Innovative Interfaces, Inc. for OPAC, circulation, acquisitions and serials control systems. The UNM main campus enrolls 26,000 students and employs 3,100 faculty and 7,200 staff. UNM offers 92 baccalaureate degrees, 68 master’s degrees and 38 doctoral and professional degrees.
