Services for the Community
Community members are welcome to:
- Use library facilities in person
- Use electronic databases on-site when licensed for public use
- Use collections on site
- Search the library catalog (LIBROS) on-site or remotely
- Any member of the public may purchase a community borrowers card good for one year for $35.00
- These cards enable the holder to borrow materials from the UNM University Libraries, and the Law or Health Sciences Libraries. Card privileges do not include utilizing Interlibrary Loan or remote (off campus) access to electronic resources. Information on in-house use of materials at the Law Library may be obtained by calling
277-6236, and the Health Sciences Center Library at 277-5450.
UNM asks visitors to observe its Visitor Code of Conduct to ensure a safe campus environment. Behaviors that distract or endanger other library patrons are prohibited. Please see the UNM Student and Visitor Codes of Conduct to ensure that you have a productive visit.
Using Library Computers
Library computers are provided to support the education, research, and public service mission of the University. They are not provided for casual entertainment, commercial uses, profit-making use or other uses not related to the academic mission of the library and the University. UNM faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students have priority use of computers.
Guest Use of Library Computers
- Guest users can use our public computers to access library information resources and services for academic purposes. Each branch library on campus provides some computers for public use
- A current Lobo Card or a valid government issued photo ID may be required to access UL public computer resources.
- Public access for the United State Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) Collection is provided for in Section 1911 of Title 44 U.S.C.
- The UL reserves the right to limit the amount of time a guest may occupy a computer.
- Please ask for help logging in at the Information Desk
Use of our computers is a privilege.
- Please use in an appropriate, ethical, and lawful manner.
- Respect the rights of other users and recognize the importance of civility and responsibility.
- Users are responsible for all their activities using computing services and shall respect the intended use of such services.
- Each computing facility has specific rules and regulations that govern the use of equipment at that site and users shall comply with the rules and regulations governing the use of such computing facilities and equipment.
- Users must understand and keep up-to-date with this policy and other applicable UNM computer policies and procedures.
All computer use must be in accordance with UNM Policies and local, state and federal laws.
Consequences of Misuse
The University Libraries reserves the right to request users cease using computer equipment and/or to leave the library if they are found to be in violation of any part of this policy, and may deny further access to library computing resources for repeat offenders.
- The Libraries will pursue infractions or misconduct through the campus disciplinary channels and/or law enforcement as appropriate, which include contacting University Libraries security and Campus security and police, and filing an incident report, in addition to a police report.
