Services and Assistance > Renewing Checked-Out Items

All items checked-out from the UNM University Libraries' general collection (excluding course reserve items, periodicals, and recalled items) can be renewed twice. After two renewals, the item must be returned to the library and checked-in. The item may then be checked-out again to the original borrower provided that the item has not been recalled. The renewal limit permits a graduate student, faculty member, or staff member to borrow items for up to three semesters. (An original loan is one semester, and two semester renewals). Undergraduates will be permitted to borrow an item up to 90 days. (One 30-day original loan, and two 30-day renewals). Community Borrowers will be permitted to borrow an item up to 42 days. (One 14-day original loan, and two 14-day renewals).

Renewing Items Online Through the LIBROS Online Catalog
You are encouraged to renew items through the LIBROS Online Catalog. From the LIBROS main screen you can select the “View My Account” link to renew materials. You will be prompted to enter your name and patron ID number (typically your UNM ID number). Follow the online prompts to renew your items.

Some items may not be eligible for renewal (items which are being recalled, items which have already renewed twice, items on course reserve, and periodicals). It is also not recommended that you renew items too soon after you have originally checked them out. This will use up your renewal limit without giving you the maximum length of your loan period. It is best to wait until your item is nearly due or has just become due, before renewing.
