Campus library collections relevant for art and photography research are found throughout the University Libraries and in other libraries, centers, and collections, in particular:
Consult with a reference librarian if you have questions or need assistance. Help is available in the library, by phone, and by email. The Hours and Locations page provides contact information; the Services and Assistance page offers other information about the University Libraries. Last but not least, be sure to visit campus libraries to make use of materials that are not available via the World Wide Web.
Periodical indexes and abstracts are used to identify articles in journals, newspapers and magazines. Indexes and abstracts are available in print and electronic format; some of the latter provide full-text articles. Some important online indexes to articles on art and art history, including specialized and interdisciplinary resources, are listed below. Additional databases are listed on the Research Databases and Indexes by Name page. The Journals and magazines section has links to other resources, including the online journal archives JSTOR and Project MUSE.

For help selecting databases in other subject areas, use the Database Advisor.
To find the complete article (if not available full text in your database), search the LIBROS online catalog to see if UNM subscribes to the journal in paper format (search for the journal, newspaper or magazine title, NOT the title of the article) or use Gold Rush to determine if the library subscribes to specific magazines and journals in online full-text format.
If UNM does not own an item, members of the UNM community may request materials via the University Libraries Interlibrary Loan Service.
The Library Catalog (LIBROS) provides location information for books, journals, maps, microforms, sound recordings, videos, and similar items owned by the UNM Libraries and other New Mexico member institutions. Materials that are not located in the Library Catalog (LIBROS) can be requested through InterLibrary Loan. WorldCat (see link above under General databases), can be searched to find more books (and other materials) in other libraries.

Reference books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries and directories provide valuable overviews of topics, definitions of terms, biographical information, and other useful material. Groveart.com (Grove Dictionary of Art Online), based on the scholarly 34-volume Dictionary of Art (FAL Ref. N31 D5 1996), covers the arts worldwide from prehistory to the present day and includes thousands of images and links to other relevant sites. The Library's Electronic Reference Shelf lists other useful online reference sources including biography resources that are helpful when seeking reliable information about an artist's life. The reference links below are also useful.
Multilingual Glossary for Art Librarians (IFLA Section of Art Libraries)
Search Journal One Search for holdings. Years of coverage vary per title. Copies of articles in titles that the UL does not own can be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Due to the April 30, 2006 fire in Zimmerman Library, print journals previously located there are currently unavailable. All the surviving periodicals and microforms were shipped out of state for cleaning and further assessment. An opening date for the heavily damaged basement level has not yet been determined. None of the journals or microforms sent for cleaning and restoration will be returned until the basement can be re-opened. Please use Interlibrary Loan to request copies of articles from these publications. ILL is only available to UNM students, faculty and staff.
