How to complete your annotated bibliography:

1. Choose your topic and have it approved by your TA.

2. Search the scientific literature for three good articles:

Step 1 - Break your topic down into its major ideas, and include synonyms or alternative search terms.

example: concept 1 = gene therapy

                                    concept 2 = cystic fibrosis

You can search either for keywords (very broad) or for words in the article title (more specific). Join your concepts with an AND

link synonyms together with an OR.

                   example:   gene therapy  AND

                                       cystic fibrosis OR lung disease

Step 2 - Choose a database from the list above.

Step 3 - Read through the abstracts in your search results and evaluate the articles. If you get too many or too few results, see the guide to refining your search strategy for some tips.

Step 4 - Follow the Gold Rush linker to check for full text, or use Journal One Search to check for either full text or a paper copy of the journal.

Good luck! If you need help with your literature search, come by the CSEL reference desk or contact Anne.
