LIBROS is the online library catalog of the University Libraries. It provides access to books, journals, maps, microforms, sound recordings, videos, and similar items owned by the UNM Libraries and other New Mexico member institutions. Materials that are not located in the Library Catalog (LIBROS) can be requested through InterLibrary Loan.     Creates "an intellectual resource to focus on the profound transformation being wrought by new digital technologies."  Useful website for many economics topics.
  • Encyclopedia of Law and Economics
    A broad-based collection of resources pertaining to economic and legal issues throughout the world and showcasing a comprehensive index of searchable bibliographic resources.
  • Euro Homepage
    Links to information and resources on European monetary policy and the European Monetary Union (EMU).  Sections, including basic readings, emerging policy issues, a regularly updated daily chronology of events (1998-present), fiscal and monetary policy issues, etc.
  • History of Economic Thought
    This web site includes home pages for over five hundred economists from the 17th Century until the modern day, organized in three main forms - through an Alpahebtical Index, by division into Schools of Thought (loosely defined) and via linked sur veys on topics.
  • Liber8
    This portal links to information from the Federal Reserve System, government agencies, and international economic datasources. Included is the International Economic Statistics database which is a union catalog for international economic data with individual records for each broad category of economic indicators (GDP, CPI, employment, etc.) from every country with English language information available.
  • Research Papers in Economics
    Research Papers in Economics is a collaborative effort of volunteers in 44 countries to enhance the dissemination of research in economics and is a decentralized database of working papers, journal articles and software components.

    This site provides short-term interest rates, treasury constant maturities, foreign exchange rates, Education Resources, inflation calculator, Personal Finance education, the Fed in Print plus U.S. Monetary Policy, and "What's a Dollar Worth?"

Environmental Economics

  • Environmental Protection Agency
    Publications and news on environmental issues in the U.S. EPA - Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) This subsection is a wonderful source of data regarding toxic chemicals that are being used, manufactured, treated, transported, or released into the environment.
  • Resources for the Future (RFF)
    Nonprofit, nonpartisan thinktank that conducts independent research primarliy rooted in economics and other social sciences on environmental and natural resource issues.

Statistics Sites

  • Consumer Price Indexes
    Comprehensive data providing current consumer price index figures, as well as time series charts. CPI History from 1913 forward is also available." The UNM Bureau of Business & Economic Research (BBER) generates a ten year table of monthly CPI data from the data available at this site. If you need an inflation calculator, try Morgan'ssite. The New Mexico Department of Labor provides a monthly CPI table from 1981 to the present.
  • Consumer Price Index (CPI) Inflation Conversion Factors
    Provides tables of Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation conversion factors to convert to 1999 (preliminary), 1998, 1997, 1996, 1995, and CPI (1982-84) dollars for all years since 1800. Has graphs showing historical trends of price levels, movie prices, government spending, debt and deficits, election costs, minimum wages, congressional pay, and various other interesting items. Link to Columbia Journalism Review's Dollar Conversion Calculator which converts any figure from 1800-1998 to recent year dollars.
  • The Current Value of Old Money
    Provides annotated links to an array of Websites that help answer the question "How much would a specified amount of money at a certain period of time be worth today?" More than just simple calculators, it encompasses a rich variety of resources including data tables, research papers, and electronic mailing list archives on the question.

    Guide to regional economic data on the Web with over 400 annotated links to socioeconomic data sources arranged by subject and provider of data. Also lists its ten best sites for finding regional economic data.

    Users can easily chart and download economic data, as well as financial and demographic time series covering more than 180 countries and their sub-regions.
  • Electronic Statistics Textbook [.zip]
    This downloadable, full-text statistics textbook covers the basic concepts of statistics as well as more complex issues and may be downloaded in its entirety as a zip file, or used chapter-by-chapter in HTML format.

Statistic sources include UN, OECD, UNICEF, Interpol, the World Bank, and many more.
  • Statistical Resources on the Web, University of Michigan
    Comprehensive, annotated directory of the best resources for statistics on the Web. The place to start when you want to find a good source for statistics on most topics.
  • Statistical Releases and Historical Data
    Federal Reserve Board site has a wealth of data and statistics, e.g. interest rates, daily bank prime rate back to 1955, etc.
  • U.S. Census Bureau
    An excellent source for demographic and economic information, including current economic indicators and population statistics.
  • U.S Dept. of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics
    Provides current national labor data and statistics. An important feature is the section on regional statistics. United States Economy at a Glance All in one chart, the past 6 months official data on unemployment, hourly earnings, CPI, PPI, import prices, employment costs, productivity. Also, quick comparison charts for industries, regions, and individual states. Statistics on the employment status of the population and related data are compiled by BLS using data from the Current Population Survey (CPS).
  • U.S. Economic Indicators
    Highlights from the latest economic indicators, with summary text and tables. Especially good for manufacturing and trade statistics and housing statistics. Includes links to monthly time series.

Time Series

  • Current Value of Old Money
    Find out about the history of money and how its value changes over time. Purchasing power for a variety of currencies too.
  • EconoMagic
    Useful for finding time series statistics.
  • EH.net
    Time series on U.S. topics like the value of a dollar, purchasing power, price of gold, exchange rates, etc. Some British data too.

International Statistics Sites

  • Central Bank of China
    Find many types of publications and statistics here, including the Financial Statistics for Taiwan District.  Also find annual reports, currency information, and banking rules and regulations.
  • Global Edge Resource Desk
    Huge site for International Statistics of all types, maintained by Michigan State University.
  • Handbook of International Economic Statistics:1998--CIA
    With figures and tables, the Handbook "provides basic worldwide statistics for comparing the economic performance of major countries and regions." Topics include economic profiles and trends, energy, agriculture, foreign trade and aid, and real gross domestic product.
  • Instituto Nacional de Estadística Geografía e Informática (INEGI)
    INEGI is Mexico's official statistical agency. This site provides basic statistical and geographic information on the economic and social sectors of Mexico.
  • International Economic Statistics
    A union catalog for international economic data with individual records for each broad category of economic indicators (GDP, CPI, employment, etc.) from every country with English language information available.
  • Population Reference Bureau (PRB)
    The PRB provides information and statistics about population, health, and the environment. It analyzes complex demographic data and research concerning migration, urbanization, aging, poverty, gender, etc. so that it is easier to understand and use.
  • Statistics Norway
    This site has links to all the official governmental statistics sites on the Web, and it even tells you what language they use.
  • UN Global Statistics
    Developed by the United Nations Statistics Division, this site has links to UN-gathered international stats, other inter-governmental organizations' stats, and to national statistical offices of countries.
  • World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development)
    Its Jolis Library Catalog includes the publicly available library resources of the network of 14 World Bank and IMF libraries.

    Founded in 1885, this key economics association and publisher of economics journals has 27,000 members. AEA encourages historical and statistical research into the economic conditions that affect daily life. News and publications are key areas of interest.
  • American Institute for Economic Research (AIER)
    Independent non-profit research and educational organization provides publications and advice on economic subjects. See cost-of-living calculator, business cycle updates, and job openings.
  • Brookings Institution: Economic Studies
    Involved in nonpartisan research, education, and publication in the fields of economics, its papers are available in full text here, as are unannotated links to over 100 Internet resources in 12 categories.
  • Institute for International Economics (IIE)
    Provides nonpartisan analysis and solutions for international economic problems from a macroeconomic point of view and provides access to full text working papers on current economic issues. Links to the text of the speeches, testimony, and essays.
  • National Association for Business Economics (NABE)
