Year’s Work in Modern Language Studies. 1929/30 to present.
Published in England by the Modern Humanities Research Association. Arranged by language, and some sections are subdivided by period. Presented in the form of bibliographical essays, with each essay reviewing current research in both books and journals. Coverage includes new editions of classic works.
The Library Catalog (LIBROS) provides location information for books, journals, maps, microforms, sound recordings, videos, and similar items owned by the UNM Libraries and other New Mexico member institutions. Materials that are not located in the Library Catalog (LIBROS) can be requested through InterLibrary Loan.

A note about the Library of Congress’s use of “Latin American”: This subject heading is used when a work includes more than the Spanish speaking countries. If a work covers only the Spanish speaking countries, the subject heading is “Spanish American drama,” etc.
For information on the literature of a specific country, consult LIBROS under headings beginning with the national adjective, for example:

Spanish literature (Note: this refers to literature from the country)
For works about a specific author, look under the author’s name as a subject. To find information on a specific work, look under the author's name as a subject, followed by the title of the work. Examples:

The second edition covers works published from 1950 to date. For linguistics, includes dictionaries, book length glossaries and bibliographies. For literature, includes dictionaries of a specific nature, bibliographies of genre (both books and articles), and concordances. This work has a detailed table of contents in addition to three indexes compiled by Elline Long: one for authors, editors and compilers, the second for author bibliographies, glossaries and concordances, and the third an index of titles.
In addition to these sources, many of the titles listed in General Print Resources also contain biographical information.

NOTE: It is often difficult to find biographical information about contemporary authors. One hint is to look at the books themselves, since it is the custom to often include biographical information on the book covers.

In the call number area "PC4640 ..." you will find a variety of bilingual Spanish-English dictionaries. For Portuguese-English dictionaries use the call number "PC5327 ...". Besides the selection in the Reference Collection, which can not be checked out, others are shelved in the circulating stacks on the third floor of Zimmerman. If you need specialized vocabulary for a particular subject area, e.g. political science, we may have a Spanish or Portuguese dictionary for that subject. You can locate these in LIBROS by using the subject heading for the discipline and then the subdivision Dictionaries--Spanish, or Dictionaries--Portuguese, e.g. Political Science--Dictionaries--Spanish.

Note the call number is not a PQ because it covers many different languages. Literature is defined in a broad sense to include historical, religious, cultural, and philosophical writings as well as prose, poetry, and drama. Also includes entries on selected literary movements, styles, and literatures along with a limited number of definitions pertinent to literary or cultural terms.

This three volume set, plus a 2002 supplement, covers all time periods and all countries. It includes writers of histories and essays as well as literary figures. It is arranged chronologically with an index to authors and subjects at the end of volume 3. The subject indexing allows access to themes, cultural movements, and other broad topics. There is a chronological table at the beginning of the work. At the end of each entry is a selected bibliography, which includes works by and about an author.

A collection of more than 6,000 Spanish, Spanish American and Catalan dramas from the 16th century. Most are on microcard with some on microfiche . Part of the collection is indexed by A Bibliography of Spanish Plays on Microcards, by Lawrence S. Thompson (Hamden, CT: Shoe String press, 1968) shelved in the ZIM Microform Guide Table PQ 6217 F6 1968.
A series of earlier texts is catalogued individually. Look in LIBROS under Hispanic Seminary of Medieval Studies to find a list of titles. Most are on microfiche, but a few are in print and even CD-ROM.
Latin American Microforms - the guide contains lists of the major collections of microforms and a selection of other titles available at the UNM University Libraries that are related to various areas of Latin America, such as language and literature, history, domestic and foreign policy, international relations, cultural issues, and arts.

Most have published at least one book of creative literature in Spanish.
