The purpose of this project is to replace the UL’s out of warranty PC inventory. As part of the project the UL will also be upgrading to Windows 7 on all its desktop and laptop computers.

What is the UL2010 Tech Leap?

The tech leap is a project that will update some of the UL’s current technologies.

What does it encompass?

We will be updating the UL’s machines to run Windows 7, and Office 2010. As part of this process we will be refreshing some of the UL’s “Out of Warranty” PCs.

What changes will the student facing machine see?

The student facing machines will also be updated to Windows 7 and Office 2010. Additionally the machines will have a new login system for Smart Access Manager (SAM).

What is Smart Access Manager (SAM)?

SAM is a program designed to ensure the UL’s computing resources are utilized by individuals with UNM affiliation, or fit criteria to be decided on by UL employees. Additional information regarding SAM training and further program information will be forthcoming.

What is the time frame for this project?

This project is currently underway. Our projected completion date is December 31, 2010. A specific schedule of dates in regards to department or location (i.e. PML, FADL, CSEL, ZIM) replacements or upgrades to come.

What about training?

A training plan to introduce you to Windows 7 and Office 2010 is in the works - more information to come.
