Finding Government Information using LIBROS
Author
searching
- The author of the majority of government information
will be the department, committee, or agency. Include United States
at the beginning and keep in mind that Dept. is often not spelled
out.
- You can also limit searches to United States
as the author.
Title
searching
- Unless you know the exact title, it is often
easier to do a word search for known words in the title and/or issuing
department.
Word
searching
- Include known words, synonyms, and key concepts
to aid you in finding a government information source. You can also
LIMIT your search to Material Type "Govt Docs".
Subject
searching
- The Library of Congress assigns specific subject
headings to a publication's bibliographic record. Subject searching
from the LIBROS_ main menu only
works if you know the exact Library of Congress subject heading used.
However, the assigned subject headings are hyperlinked in the bibliographic
record, so you may click on a subject heading and retrieve other
records in the _LIBROS catalog
with the same subject headings.
Since LIBROS. does not search
the full text or contents of all types of government information,
there are special indices to aid you in your search.
