UNM University Libraries ranked 9th in the latest Special Libraries Association survey of the top universities in the US in terms of the number of papers their librarians published over the previous 5 years in a standardized assortment of 14 library journals.  The ranking is based on a survey conducted by Amy Hardin and Tony Stankus entitled “The 2016 Rankings: The Top 25 U.S. Universities Publishing Articles that Advanced Subject Specialized Librarianship 2011-2015.” http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/0194262X.2016.1195784 

From 2011-2015, librarians from 261 U.S. universities published 1,667 papers of research or professional commentary. Every 5 years at the Special Libraries Association's annual convention awards are presented to the top ranked libraries. UNM librarians have often ranked in the top 25 over the years.

University Libraries has 26 faculty members publishing in a wide range of areas including disaster planning for libraries, threshold concepts of learning, information literacy, Latin American special collections and digital preservation.
